Mississippi State fails to close on the road....again.
The road troubles continue to plague Mississippi State as they fell at Kentucky 64-60, dropping them to 10-6 (1-2) on the season. I'll write up something more substantial on the game after I've calmed down a little. Right now, all I can think of is how tired I am of this mythical "moral victory". I'm sick of hearing "they played a good game BUT,". No, they lost. They didn't play good enough. In the meantime, I'm going to ponder just how wise it was for Gordon to be jumping into triple teams for half the game in what I will have to assume was a horribly misguided attempt to score.

I saw an interview recently where Steve Spurrier was relating a conversation with former Georgia head football coach and AD Vince Dooley where after a close South Carolina loss to Georgia Spurrier stated somehthing to the effect that the Gamecocks gave the Dawgs a scare. Dooley replied South Carolina has been scaring us [Georgia] for years. Spurrier then said that is right all South Carolina has been doing is scaring people. That is where the MSU Bulldogs are now. They are scaring people. The next step is for them to not only scare teams but defeat them.
Yes, the team is young but the next step is to start putting up W's against the UK's, Florida's, LSU's, Alabama's. Maybe this is all part of the progression of a team.
Is this too much for me to expect for a victory on the road against a LSU or Arkansas or a home victory over the aforementioned or Florida or Alabama. (Florida, yea probably) But if we as a fan base expect close games or 8-8 or 7-9 conference records, 17-14 seasons, NIt first or second round losses that is what we as fans will probably get. So I expect a Final Four berth this year or next, not really but I think Sweet 16s in the coming years are not out of the question.
I think there is a balance between total apathy and going overboard and say Stansbury should be fired if "we" are not in the Final Four by 2009.
On that note scaring people is one step and hopefully sooner rather than later we will be able to get over the Hump and putting more Ws on the board.
I also want to say that in my view Rick Stansbury has done an excellent job in recruiting and getting thsi program to a level where in my view the 2003-2004 14-2, 26-4 seasons may not be a yearly occurrence but also not somethign that happens once every 20 years. Maybe a few more NCAA tournament wins over Butler, Texas, and Xavier but overall I cannot complain much at all.
In closing, I saw where there is a bettign line on tonight's Hula Bowl. If you are having any interest in betting the Hula Bowl between Aina and Kai, whatever that is Hawaiian for, it is time to attend Gamblers' Anonymous ASAP, almost as bad as betting on an NHL game.
That being said, sign me up tomorrow because this is an absolute 5000 star, sell your children, spouse, farm, stone cold lead pipe lock. Kai is a 3 point favorite over Aina. Take Aina and the points. This is an absolute mauling Aina 42 Kai 14.
